Salam wbt :)
Have you ever encountered a situation where you did something wrong and someone corrected it?
No one likes to be corrected, especially if we believed that there's nothing wrong with what we did, right? :)
Or even when you know you did something wrong, the feeling of being corrected from someone else is not a good feeling, really.
Or even when you know you did something wrong, the feeling of being corrected from someone else is not a good feeling, really.
I guess we can call that, ego maybe? or pride?
We have our ego and pride in ourselves. We'd like to think that we are perfect in what we do.
That 'ego' and 'pride' gave us the confidence. In a way, it improves our self-esteem.
But, let me tell you something.
Too much 'ego' and 'pride' can hurt us.
It will let us think that we're perfect, when in fact we aren't that perfect.
We have our flaws. And we WILL do mistakes.
So, when we can't stand someone giving advice or corrected us,
How can we improve ourselves?
In surah 'Abasa', Allah the Almighty Himself corrected Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon Him).
But did Prophet Muhammad turn against Allah who corrected him in the Qur'an that will be read by all his ummah?
No.
He learnt from his mistake.
That's why our Prophet is the best man with the best character ^^.
Don't we want to be just like him? Following his examples in character?
I know from experience that it hurts when that happened.
But, after a lot of thinking and inner reflection within myself,
I realised that when someone corrected and give advice to you,
In one of the hadith related by Bukhari and Muslim,
it says,
"None of you truly believes until he wishes for his brother what he wishes for himself"
We should want the BEST for our brothers and sisters just like we want the BEST for ourselves.
So, reminding and giving advice to each other is one of the way.
Let us learn to open up our heart especially in accepting advice from other people.
Even when it hurts.
And don't be mad to that person that's giving you advice as that's exactly what the shaytan want us to do.
Bit by bit, shaytan will try to destroy our ukhuwah with one another.
Value the ukhuwah that we have with each other.
And don't let a small incident lead us to destroy the it.
Ok?
